Coach Spotlight: Coach Billy DePetro

Each month, we’re spotlighting one of our incredible coaches so you can get to know the people who make The Spot what it is. This month, we’re kicking things off with Coach Billy DePetro, who’s been a part of The Spot family for almost 10 years! Billy shares how his role has grown from working at the front desk to becoming a full-time coach, what drives him as a coach, and a few things you might not know about him outside the gym.

Where are you from and where did you go to school?

Chesterland, Ohio! I Graduated from West Geauga High School (Go Wolverines!) And wrestled at John Carroll University (Go Blue Streaks!)

What is your background and what got you into working out?

I spent college studying pre-med and herpetology before spending 15 years doing pro theatre around the state. Weight training has always been a part of my regimen from early in middle school sports to present. It's the one thing you can always get better at, regardless of the kind of day you're having.

How long have you been Coaching at The Spot and what is your favorite part about working at The Spot?

I've been working for The Spot for almost 10 years now, I've been coaching for 5 years of that. My favorite part of working at The Spot is the people, clients and coaches alike, it really is a great place to be and I am very lucky to have the opportunity to help impact people in a positive way.

What do you like to do when you aren't Coaching or training?

Watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy extended edition and play a wide variety of games with friends, including Dungeons and Dragons.

Would you share with us one of your favorite quotes?

“Saruman believes that it is only great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. I have found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk, that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love.” Gandalf the Gray (J.R.R. Tolkien) The Hobbit
